FOUR Iowa Communities selected for 100 Best in Nation
On March 19, 2007, the four Iowa communities selected by America’s Promise as part of the 100 Best Communities for Young People (Dubuque, Lamoni, Mason City and Pottawattamie County) were recognized in both the Senate and House of Representatives at the Capitol building in Des Moines.
From there they met with Lt. Governor Patty Judge where she honored them for their efforts towards positive youth development. The members representing the four communities received certificates from the Lt. Governor and explained why they were chosen as a 100 Best Community.
To close the celebration, a reception was held at the Historical Building, which was attended by Iowa’s Promise staff, commissioners from the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service, legislators and representatives from state agencies who are part of the Iowa Collaboration for Youth Development.
The celebration was designed to recognize and honor the hard work done at the local level to carry the Five Promises into the community in order to create and establish positive youth development initiatives and activities.
