Mississippi Valley Spreads the Word
Mississippi Valley’s Promise (MVP) has exciting news! On May 23rd MVP and the Community Foundation hosted a kickoff breakfast for our Every Child/Every Promise Initiative. Over 300 attendees from business, education, faith and retiree communities were given toolkits to engage the whole community in the action plan. The purpose of our initiative is to:

--identify and prioritize the needs of children and youth 0-20
--build awareness in the community of those needs
--identify and link agencies, schools, sponsors, and individuals
--develop a strategic plan for fulfilling the Promises
--measure and monitor progress in our community

They are also in the process of running “Train the Trainer” sessions, engaging community members to take the Every Child/Every Promise Initiative discussion into their workplaces, neighborhoods, communities of faith and families so that a collaborative integrative strategic plan is developed.

Four Iowa Communities Among 100 Best!
Four Iowa communities were honored by America’s Promise in the 2007 "100 Best Communities for Young People" competition.  Dubuque, Lamoni, Mason City, and Pottawattamie County, were all selected for efforts made in their communities to provide their children and youth with the Five Promises of America’s Promise:
  1. Caring Adults
  2. Safe Places
  3. Healthy Start
  4. Effective Education
  5. Opportunities to Help Others
America’s Promise’s 100 Best Communities for Young People competition honors outstanding efforts on behalf of young people by multiple sectors of communities.  In cities, suburbs, small towns and counties across the country, this annual competition is leading communities to assess their efforts, work more effectively together for young people, and share best practices.
