Lamoni
On behalf of Iowa’s Promise and the Iowa Collaboration for Youth Development, Governor Tom Vilsack’s Office announced in July 2006 that Lamoni had been selected as a Community of Promise in recognition of their collaborative programs on behalf of children and youth.
“An America's Promise wagon sits on the meeting desk in my office as a constant reminder of the importance of the promises we have made to Iowa’s children. I am very pleased to announce that Lamoni’s leaders have accepted the challenge and responsibility of working together to provide local children and youth with the support they need to achieve their full potential,” said Governor Vilsack at the time of the announcement.
Previously honored by America’s Promise as one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People, the Community of Promise designation enables Lamoni to build awareness around local youth development efforts, form a unified voice for activism, and recognize and strengthen the assets for children and youth in the community.
To ensure that young people learn responsibility, teamwork, and leadership skills in the community, the mission of “Lamoni’s Promise” is: To build character and competence in all children and youth through the delivery of the Five Promises of America’s Promise: Caring Adults, Safe Places, Healthy Start and Future, Marketable Skills, and Opportunities to Serve.
